No Clear Career Goals
People search for a new job due to various reasons like being unhappy in current position, jobless, seeking a career change, a better pay scale, and other similar purposes. In these circumstances, there is always pressure to grab the very first opportunity that comes in the way without thinking about the long-term goal. It may look like you have found what you were looking for, but later or sooner, you will realise your mistake.
Relying on the Recruiters
Although recruiters are an excellent way to find new opportunities, it is not a wise decision to rely entirely on their assistance. Job seekers often forget that recruiters always want to see a good match for their respective client and you are not their priority. Productive networking with colleagues, friends and clients would be a much better option rather than wasting time on a recruiter.
Same Resume
Another huge mistake that job seekers usually make is applying everywhere with the same version of the resume. This is neither productive nor effective as different jobs need different skills. Therefore, instead of keeping one resume for different places, try to create different versions keeping in mind the positions you are applying for. You don’t need to re-write the entire document. Just modify your career objective and work experience that suits the job.
Lack of Confidence
Lack of confidence is the biggest challenge in job search success. Due to this problem, you won’t be able to perform well and market yourself to a potential employer. Despite having a good education background, experience and required skills, you are most like to get rejected. If you want to become more confident, consult professionals, friends and family to get some help.
Skipping the Cover Letter
Another mistake that applicants often make. While applying for a job, people often overlook the importance of a cover letter. They assume that hiring managers don’t read it, so it is a waste of time. There is a possibility that they don’t read all the cover letter, but that doesn’t allow you to skip it and deny its significance! A cover letter highlights your personality and professionalism in a way that a resume can’t.
Do not follow up
Jobseekers do not understand the significance of following up with the recruiter or hiring manager. If you think that your job is complete once you have sent the CV and cover letter, you are wrong! This is just the beginning of a lengthy procedure, and here, you must not hesitate. There’s no problem in making a call to check or sending a mail to check the status of your application. It can make a positive impact as it shows your strong desire for the job.
